How it works
➊
Required to start
You must successfully hit the 2.25" target first before moving on to any other target.
➋
No skipping
Once you've hit the 2.25", work your way up one paddle at a time, in order. You must take a shot at the next target before you're allowed to do anything else — no skipping ahead, and no voluntarily dropping back to easier targets. Each shooter has 10 shots total.
↕
What counts as a hit
The paddle must fully switch sides to count. Grazes or any partial movement that doesn't flip the paddle won't score. And because Climb to Glory has no stems — a major flaw of conventional KYL targets — you can't cheat the system with a lucky stem strike. You have to put real lead on steel.
Between rounds
Paddles aren't reset — they stay wherever the last shooter left them. The switch-sides rule still applies, so every round starts with a fresh layout. Same target, new challenge.
↩
When you miss
A miss is what unlocks your options. Until you miss, you must keep climbing — one paddle at a time. But once a miss happens, you haven't lost any points, and your remaining shots are yours to use either of these two ways:
Your options after a miss
A
Try the missed target again. Once you hit it, you've earned that point — and you can keep climbing.
B
Drop back to any target you've already hit and keep shooting it to bank more points with your remaining shots.
✅
Your earned points are always safe.Once a target is hit, that point is banked — no miss can ever take it away.
💡
Strategy
You can't skip ahead — every target gets a shot. But once you miss, the question becomes where to aim the rest of your shots. If a small target keeps beating you, drop back and stack points on one you can hit consistently. A guaranteed hit beats a hopeful one every time.
52pts max
Hit the first 7 targets once each (28 pts), then use your remaining 3 shots to hit the 0.50" summit target three times (24 pts) — all 10 shots, perfectly placed.
🏆
Tie-Breaker Round
Used only when two or more shooters are tied after the final round
1
Each tied shooter takes one shot at the 0.50" target. If no one can hit the 0.50", move up to the next larger target.
2
If the first shooter hits, the second shooter must also hit to stay in.
3
Continue one shot at a time until one shooter misses. The other shooter wins.
