Refund policy
Our Lifetime Guarantee
We build steel targets to last a lifetime, and we stand behind them for a lifetime.
If one of our steel targets fails in normal use, we will replace it or refund its purchase price, at our option. That is your exclusive remedy and the full extent of what we owe on a Guarantee claim.
“Lifetime” means the service life of the target under normal use, consistent with our Golden Rules and published limitations. There’s no arbitrary cutoff date — the Guarantee runs as long as the target is in normal service with its original purchaser. It runs to the original purchaser only and is not transferable.
We can promise this because we know what our steel can take, and because we tell you plainly what it can’t. The conditions below aren’t fine print designed to get us out of the promise — they’re the operating limits of hardened steel, and we explain the reasoning behind every one of them.
If you’re ever unsure whether something is covered, call (844) 783-3548 (10–6 Eastern, Monday–Friday) or email mark@shootingtargets7.com. Mark usually answers himself.
How to Make a Claim
Step 1 — Contact us before you ship anything.
Email mark@shootingtargets7.com or call (844) 783-3548 with:
- Your order number
- A few photos of the target, including the damage
- What you were shooting: caliber, bullet weight, barrel length, and roughly how far away you were
Photos usually tell us everything we need. This step exists so you don’t pay freight on a target we could have sorted out over email — and sometimes we can solve the problem without a return at all.
Step 2 — We’ll tell you what happens next.
We’ll confirm whether it’s covered and, if a return is needed, give you shipping instructions. If the problem is the result of our mistake, we cover return shipping.
Step 3 — We inspect and settle it.
Once your return arrives we’ll email to confirm we have it. We aim to inspect returns and issue approved refunds or ship replacements within 5 business days of receipt. Refunds go back to your original payment method; your bank may take several days more to post the credit.
We’ll notify you either way — approval or denial. If we can’t approve a claim we’ll tell you exactly why, and if you disagree with the call, say so and we’ll take another look. Our decision after that second review is final.
Returning Something That Hasn’t Failed
Changed your mind, or ordered the wrong thickness? Contact us within 30 days of delivery.
Unused items in original packaging and resalable condition can come back for a refund of the goods only. You pay return shipping. Where your original order shipped free, our outbound shipping cost may be deducted from the refund. Custom and cut-to-order items are not returnable.
This 30-day window applies to unused returns. It has nothing to do with the Lifetime Guarantee above, which has no time limit.
What the Guarantee Covers
Our steel targets, against failure in normal use, when used in line with our Golden Rules and within our published limits for thickness, bullet energy, and impact velocity.
That includes cracking that progresses into an actual failure — see the hairline cracking section below, because this is the one people ask about most.
What It Doesn’t Cover, and Why
Ammunition containing steel. Steel-core, steel-jacketed, steel-cased, bi-metal, or any other ammunition with steel in or on it. This ammunition is engineered to punch through steel and will damage AR500 targets, ours included. Damage from steel ammunition is easy to identify and isn’t covered.
Pitting and cratering. Not covered, whatever the measured velocity. Above roughly 2,850 fps at the target, the heat under the bullet strike is enough to pit the surface — but every heat of steel varies slightly in hardness. That’s unavoidable and true of hardened steel targets generally. One plate may pit at a somewhat lower velocity than another. Our published limits are working guidance, not a laboratory guarantee for every individual plate.
Backing up an extra 25 yards can greatly reduce pitting, and heavier, slower ammunition helps as well. Our Golden Rules and thickness chart give you the numbers for your setup.
Edge chipping. Chipping at the edges is normal on AR500 above about 2,000 fps and can’t be prevented at those velocities — there’s no material supporting the edge, and laser cutting hardens it further. It isn’t a failure and isn’t covered. Flipping the target usually restores a clean face.
Hairline cracking on its own. Fine cracks — especially in corners — are extremely common in AR500 and are a normal characteristic of hardened steel in our experience. On their own they aren’t a failure, and they very rarely become one, so cracking by itself isn’t a warranty claim.
But if a crack progresses into an actual failure, that is covered. Send us photos and we’ll take care of it, provided the target wasn’t abused or shot outside the Golden Rules.
Accessories and hardware. Stands, hangers, chains, brackets, mounting hardware, and other accessories aren’t covered by the Lifetime Guarantee. They’re covered by the 30-day return terms above, and by any manufacturer warranty that came with them.
Abuse. Destruction of the target, use as anything other than a shooting target, cutting or welding, or shooting outside our published limits.
We may also decline Guarantee service to anyone whose account was terminated for fraud, chargeback abuse, or breach of our Terms of Service.
Shipping and Costs
Unless the return is the result of our mistake, you’re responsible for return shipping.
Refunds cover the cost of the goods only. We don’t refund shipping you originally paid to have the item delivered.
Use a trackable service or add shipping insurance on anything you send back. Steel is heavy, and we can’t refund a target that never arrives.
Return address — contact us first, see Step 1. Returns sent without contacting us first may be refused or returned at your expense.
