      Ultra Mega Gong Targets

Yes, but read on before you destroy your targets.

Most folks end up using these with 5/16" targets with pistols but plenty use them without issue with their 5.56 / .223 as long as they heed the advice below.

You need to be around 125 yds out (assuming 16" barrel and 55g ammo) or you will see some pitting. Get closer than 80 yds and you might pierce it especially if you have a longer barrel.

Always keep bullet speed below 2850fps at any target to avoid damaging them.

The 5/16 Milspec targets are rated for a maximum of 1750 ft lbs of energy.

A 6.5 creedmoor has around 2200 ft lbs @ 100yds  so you'd need to back up or use 3/8" AR500.

Here you can find all thicknesses of Ultra Mega Gongs in AR500 and AR600

The 1/4" has a maximum FPE rating of 1000 and  is perfect for all handguns except the hand cannons like 44 Mag, etc.

Many customers also use it for rimfire and air gun.

      🔥 MIL-A-46100E vs. AR500: What’s the Difference? 🔥

It all boils down to specs and purpose—especially when it comes to consistency and toughness! 💪

      🛡️ MIL-A-46100E: The Military Muscle

      • What is it? A Mil-Spec armor steel, stamped with approval by the U.S. Department of Defense 🇺🇸 for serious combat action.

      • Hardness: Locked in at 477-534 BHN (Brinell Hardness Number). Tough as nails! 💥

      • Superpower: It’s crazy consistent—the whole plate is uniformly tough, soaking up impacts without cracking or shattering.

      • Why it rocks: Perfect for tanks, armored rides, or stopping speedy projectiles dead in their tracks! 🚀

      🎯 AR500: The Everyday Warrior

      • What is it? An abrasion-resistant steel with a hardness of about 470-540 BHN. Not tied to strict rules!

      • Vibe: Built for commercial use—think shooting targets 🎯 or body armor you’d grab off the shelf.

      • Catch: Toughness and quality can vary depending on who makes it. No military babysitting here!

      • Weak spot? Some AR500 might crack under big hits (like an M80 bullet 💣) if it’s not tough enough.

      🌟 The Bottom Line

      • MIL-A-46100E: Military-grade beast 🏅—regulated, reliable, and ready for war with top-tier hardness AND toughness.

      • AR500: A solid all-rounder ✨—hard as heck but less predictable, made for civilian life.

So, MIL-A-46100E is the elite soldier 🪖, while AR500 is the scrappy fighter 🥊—both tough, but built for different battles!

Yes, but it is the closest fractional size that people will recognize. If I said 19/64" (the closest fraction) few would be able to relate to it. This steel is from a DOD contract and was made to their specific specs.

It is more economical to apply black zinc phosphate to our gongs 6 inches and under. Don't worry, it is still zinc plated, it's just a different process.

      ULTRA MEGA [FEATURED VIDEO]

READ THIS IF YOU INTEND TO SHOOT 5/16" WITH 2.23 / 5.56

      pitting / piercing

This 5/16" 46100 target was destroyed after being shot with a 5.56 at 50 yds.

To avoid anyone else having this issue I am posting this

here to be as clear and transparent as is possible.

You need to be around 115-125 yds away with a 16" barrel and 55g ammo before bullet speed drops below the max allowed of 2850fps.  [Further still if you have a longer barrel.]

You must respect both the energy limit (1750fps) AND the maximum speed limit 2850fps.

If you exceed either, you will have problems.

It is not my responsibility to replace your targets if you destroy them because you did not read or follow these instructions.

Why Is No One Else Selling Milspec?

      BECAUSE IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE.

We were fortunate to secure some of this

valuable material from drops from a DOD contract.

We got a great deal and are passing

      the savings onto you.
