These are great to protect your boards from getting destroyed from low misses.
I have not impacted the plate holder...yet. But, the design is very robust/stout. Definitely a must if purchasing challenge plates.
Nice way to save the 2x4 from getting shot at. Thank you
I purchased the Challenge Base, Challenge Cap, & 2x4 Armor with a 12 inch gong together. You will need a 2x4 to span between the base & challenge cap - I used a 4 foot length piece of lumber which gave a good target height for 40 yard shooting. The base assembly was straight forward with 3 nuts & bolts holding everything together. Steel is thick and base is very sturdy. Challenge cap rests easily on top of the 2x4 extending up from the base. No issues with platform stability when holding a 12 inch 3/8 gong target. I'm sure this could easily hold a 24 inch targets weight and still offer great stability. The 2x4 armor simply screws into the 2x4 to protect the exposed wood directly under your target. Knowing that folks will miss the target this will certainly add life to the 2x4. All items other than the 2x4 armor I felt were priced well. This particular item could be sold separately but should be included with an entire target stand purchase. I never make two back to back orders allowing me to use the discount for reviews so maybe offer it up-front. Overall - a great solution of the highest quality, with quick turnaround & shipping. Thank you!
I would never miss my target (not) but my shooting buddies might so spend a little and save a lot. These are easy to install and saves having to replace your 2X4"
Everyone misses. This will keep your 2x4 serviceable for a long time. Perfect fit, easy to install. I painted it the same color as the target and it will be easy to touch up as needed. Don't buy the target without it.
These are a must have if you are setting up your own steel challenge. Brought a 4ft 2x4 section for each target and not one was taken out of commission all day by the kids’ misaligned, seemingly wild, plinking. Less fussing with the targets meant more time shooting for the adults. Worth it...
This will save you from replacing 2 x 4 supports too often if at all. You'll destroy to mounting screws before you'll damage this armor.
I take alot of new/inexperienced shooters out and use steel targets to keep it exciting. This 2x4 protector is imperative as new shooters will inevitably shoot the 2x4 in half. This is an inexpensive way to keep down time to a minimum.
While 2x4's aren't expensive shopping for them and cutting them down is a pain. Had three hits on my armor out of 350 rounds my first time out and am sure I would have had to replace a 2x4 had I not had the protection. Most of us will eventually jerk down during fast shooting. This is cheap insurance which will save you time and money.
Bought these along with the IPSC Torso targets and stands. They were a little difficult to install as my drill bit wasn't long enough to go all the way through the long side of the 2x4. Not the product's fault, just a reason to go back to hardware store and buy something new. One of the bolts stripped out when trying to install, they barely went through the 2x4 and wasn't enough thread to get a good bite on the nut. Would recommend another 1/2" longer bolts. They took several hits, both direct and splatter from impacts and held up great. Would probably have to replace the 2x4 already if not for these.
I didn't install these right away...I was too excited to test my new steel. I will install on the next set of "posts" and I have confidence that my posts will last longer with the protection this will provide.
A steel plate...saves replacing wood...it works!
While sighting my scope, I noticed I was slowly chopping down my 2x4. Therefore, I ordered an armor 2x4 plate, worth the investment.
Screws break easily
While these are cheap, if anyone shoots the screw head it breaks and then the whole piece swivels down (if shot on top) or swings left and right moving forward. Better option would be to enlarge the holes and run carriage bolts through that can be shot with pistol like other manufacturers do. I'm going to modify mine since I bought 16 of them. #Marks Note: We will look into this for future versions thank you for the review.
I made the target height 5' 10" so I'll have get another one to fill the area that may get struck by low bullets. You need a longer drill bit to install this armor or you will need to drill from both sides. Good product. Good price
