This is only one of my three target stands i have. All with shooting 7 steel plates !
These things are bulletproof! I now have 3 - 8" AR500 GONG 1/2" and a 3" as well for very precise shooting. We've had a great time plinking these targets. They stand up to multiple .308 hits and even our .450 Bushmaster without hardly a scratch. I'll have these for life. Great Veteran owned company, fast shipping and excellent customer support. I couldn't be happier! Be strong, be of good courage. God bless America and long live The Republic!
Much like the 6" gong I reviewed, we shot 9mm, .45ACP and 5.56 at this. The 9 and 45 were from 10 and 15 yard distances. The gong worked flawlessly hanging from a 2x4 on the tpost hanger. We eventually moved over to the 100 yard range on the same tpost hanger and started hitting this with the 5.56 from 100yards. There's slight dimpling in the steel from the rifle rounds at that distance but I have no doubt this will take a lot more punishment in the future.
Love these plates! I’m looking forward to getting a few more!
Hardware from Home Depot was completely destroyed, but the plate took 50 rounds of 223 at 50 yards like a champ. I’d buy straps and from here in the first place if I did it again. Their prices on amazon are cheaper in some cases.
Banged the gong with 5.56, 6.5 Grendel, 6.5 Creemore and 7mm mag for hours at 350-500yrds
received, hung, shot the shit out of them......ate everything from .308, .223, 7.62 x 39, .40, .45, 9mm, .380.....oh and .22.
I have ordered numerous targets from from these guys with great results each time, all products are of high quality and enhances our shooting experience. We really like the bulls eye targets, great feedback when hit.
Great Quality. Just what I wanted.
Their 8” gong’s are super solid and ring loud! Any gong you get is solid from ST7.com so definitely go get some of these!
There awesome products
Solid Gong! They ring just like you want them to! What i did was buy a silhouette for the middle, two 10'' gong's, and two 8" on the outside and put them on a horizontal 2X4 which was about 6' long. Pressure treated 2X4's. Anyways, this is a great gong. It has a new finish on it which is supposed to make it last for a long time (they're no longer black, they're a very metallic looking gold'ish color). Enjoy!
These targets are great! I have been shooting them with cast and jacketed bullets with. 44 mag up to 45-70. I expect to get years of range time out of them.
I was sceptical at first because of GREAT price but when they arrived I was overjoyed! I will be buying more soon!!!
I've had my own 250 yard range for decades always shot paper as well as a few other things but these were my first steel targets I also bought and left positive feedback on the torso plate I bought with center gong. I have a retired col friend who I exclusively reload for who had these set up at his range last year. I tried them there and knew id be getting them. So far these have had several thousand rounds ALREADY and are holding up fine. I love the instant feed back these are the 5/8 ths steel rifle rated targets and they have been shot with many calipers so far from .22lr pistols up to .45 acp at ten yards to include 10 MM 9mm, .38, .357 etc etc and even .300 blk rifle at closer range which I load like .357 with 9.5 grains of H110 not recommending rifle at close range but mine is set up as a pistol load all the way out to 250 with AR 5.56 ( not steel core ) and DPMS .308 as well as .308 bolt actions .270 bolt actions shot guns etc etc these rifles have also been shooting at them at 100 yards.... so far they've taken a TREMENDOUS amount of impact with little sign of any damage. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE!!!! a great deal and MEGA FAST SHIPPING...
Can't praise these steel targets enough, great value for money. I shoot them all the time using 223's to 300 am and with a quick light spray of paint, as good as new again.
My son wanted a steel target for his 5.56 AR. So I ordered a 5/8" thick gong. We placed the target at 200 yards. Projectile might have been exceeding the recommended 2850fps at impact. Very minimal marking of the target surface. If Shooting Target 7 guidelines are followed, my grandkids will pass them on to their grandkids. If hung and allowed to swing freely, they are almost indestructible. Great product!!
I bought the 12, 8, and 6" targets and received a bonus 4" target. The 4" is a challenge to hit at 100 yds. from a plain rest using iron sights. I'll know more about its usefulness at that or greater ranges once I have a scope mounted on my rifle and build a good shooting bench. The 8" is more challenging than the 12, of course, for shooting offhand from 100 yds. with iron sights. At my age, it's not a sure thing! One should shoot often to maintain skills. If it's time consuming to put out and take in targets, then that won't happen as often as I would like. So I will build a small trailer that I can pull out of the barn with a riding mower or truck (or even by hand if I'm not going far) and mount the targets on it. These are great targets and a good price and the shipping is quick and affordable. As stated, if you hit the very edge of the target, at least with a .223 at 100 yds., it will knock a little piece of the edge off. This is such a small chunk (it would require maybe 8 or 10 such hits to remove the amount it would take to make a BB) that I have no fear of eating away the targets. Face hits remove no metal at all.
These are great targets, really fun with a suppressed .22 shooting at 50 yards and 100 yards.
We set up the 1/2"x 8" gong with the mounting hardware. First we shot 9mm and 45 cal handguns and the bullets splashed straight down to the ground. Then we moved back to 200 yards and shot rifles chambered in 5.56 and 308. The gong moved and had nice sound so it was easy to know you hit your target. Way more fun than paper target. Will buy more!
Very happy with the target. It's sturdy and was delivered very quickly.
A#1 can't beat this product will buy more!!!
These target are awesome where were these targets 20 years ago. They would have saved me a lot of money. EVERYBODY needs some of these targets. Cant stop shooting them.
High quality fun to shoot target.
The gong was just as expected, good quality. Took it and hanging kit to range hung it and started shooting. Will be recommended to fellow shooters.
I have shot these 1/2" targets with handguns and rifles. With handgun ammo, there is not even a dimple where the rounds hit the target. With 223 rifle ammo (at closer range than is recommended), there are slight dimples where the rounds hit. With the 1/2" thickness, these things would probably outlast my firearms if I were to use them until failure. Excellent prices. Great value here.
We have ordered a few different sizes now. All are excellent quality, fast shipping, and for a great price. We have been pounding these targets with heavy magnum rifle hand loads, and they show very little wear. A coat of fresh paint and start all over again. The only drawback is, that I find we are going thru more ammo now LOL. Keep up the good work, we will be buying more.
Works fine with anything I have used, 22LR, 7mm-08, 300 AAC Blackout and .308, no issues. Spend some time setting this up with a good base and make sure to have safe dirt or wood backstops. We use them at 100 yard length. Paint them white and watch where the lead hits. We also will put a red dot paint spot in the middle. the can be repainted as needed. To further help from rust, you can always dip this in melted paraffin wax from time to time.
New Mexico Shooter
I bought the stand, 8" gong, 6" gong, and mounting kits. We do not have a regular shooting range, so we have to shoot in arroyos at our own targets. I've shot the gongs with a variety of calibers, including 38 Special, 357 Mag, 44 Special, 44 Mag, 45 Colt, 45 ACP, and 223 Remington. They will see use with more calibers in the future. The stand is easy to set up and provides a stable base for the gongs. The gongs are solid and durable. I've had them for 2 weeks and they've been shot a combined 600 or so times with lead, plated, and jackets bullets. There has been no damage whatsoever. I highly recommend these products.
i purchased 6 ,8,and10in. 1/2 ar500 got a free 3 in. shipped in three days for free to NC. My next purchase is the frame kit with extension legs.
Great for practicing off hand shooting at 100 yards. It lets you know if you would have been in the vitals instantly.
Bought 2 of these, got a free 3 inch gong and very cheap shipping (I think it was like $5.95). have only got to hit one of the plates a couple times, plan on hitting it hard today though and dont expect any issues.
This gong can take it all! I am using for handguns, 12", 10", 8", 6", and the 4" (free with my order!!)...HOWEVER....will take on any caliber at the proper distance! Plan on buying one more gong (16") for 100 yards plus. Best system out there, bought with the stand and support chains, using my own 2x4.....buy it once, will last you a lifetime! Highly, highly recommend; customer service is unparalleled!
Outstanding product at a great price. I'll buy all my steel targets from here.
I found this target to be of excellent quality. Thank you.
These targets are absolutely awesome. I bought a few and took them out on New Years and loved them.
Very happy with the 8" gongs I purchased. I am using them at the DWR Ranch and they worked perfect on wooden sawhorses. I'd like to see the holes in them be made for carriage bolts, but other than that, will be ordering again, no doubt!
I've shot pistol rounds at this plate and it eats them up like candy. Haven't had a chance to shoot my rifles at it yet but can't wait to do it . Nice quality workmanship
I ordered 10 targets in various sizes from 3" through 10". All of them were in 1/2" thickness. A bit overkill for my uses but the sound of impact is a really satisfying "thwop" instead of the ringing associated with thinner targets. After a several hour outing with constant .223 hits the targets still look brand new, as I'm sure they will for quite some time! The price is right on these targets, the quality leaves nothing to be desired and the freebies thrown in for large orders are a really nice "thank you" from the company. However, I should be thanking the company for a great product! I will definitely order more when I can make an addition to my range.
Great product, stands up well to .223 ammo. Sounds off when hit. Enjoy shooting it.
Fun targets, no sound out of the smaller ones with hunting rifles but they move a lot so it's easy to tell when hit. Steel is a blast to shoot at from hunting positions and if you paint it you can see poi. The bigger 1/2" targets show a little dimple from 06 @ 100 yards but 3" didn't dimple with .338 ultra mag. Must be because it's light and swings back so easy. I used to fill different size plastic containers with water for my younger shooters but now I hang a bunch of different size steel targets. Mount kits are hard to beat for the price.
I purchased 8" and 6" 1/2" gongs along with the stand (reviewed elsewhere) and chain kits. This is my first purchase of steel targets and I'm very impressed. There were no sharp edges, shipping was very fast and after a couple hundred hits with 9mm, 30 carbine, .223 and 300 BLK, they look and feel exactly as they did when new. A coat of spray paint and I can't tell they were ever used. I'll soon be using them with .308 and .30-06 and expect them to withstand those calibers just as well.
Marks putting himself out of business - cant wearem out !
Took it out with the guys but only had about 80 yards. Multiple hits with 300 Savage, '06, and 270 WSM. No damage! Just marks ON the surface.
I purchased the 8" Gong and mounting kit.On initial inspection all parts were there and high quality. The Gong itself was well made, even lines holes were well place and Gong had no really sharp edges.I shot it with the 6.5Cm,7.62 X 39,.223 and 308.Gong held up well.I mounted it on a metal sawhorse.Great product and I intend to order another..Shooting Targets folk s are very fast in answering questions and customer service is very good.
Excellent product at an unbeatable price with super fast shipping.....I will be buying many more in the near future.
Beautiful, indestructible target. Extremely happy with purchase. These targets have really made a difference in target shooting. Immediate response for hits is awesome. Read website info prior to ordering. Tons of information. I bought targets that are more than I need for what I am shooting at them. Website gives you a graph to determine what targets you need. I read after ordering. A+++++
Webeat the hell out of our targets the day we got them with 223/5.56 at 100yrds we tried to blow holes in them, unsuccessful so unfortunately we won't need any more for awhile
Good product Great service and shipping
Will be ordering more soon.
Target has stood up nicely to a lot of 100yrd .223 & .308 shooting.
I have 11 of these targets in all sizes and they have turned my Pistol and Rifle ranges into Shooting Gallery's. The closest targets on the rifle range is 150 yards and they just laugh at a 308, the only thing you see is where the bullet hit but the targets show no metal deterioration what so ever. The closest pistol targets are 20 yards and they also just laugh at 44Mag hits. The only use I see for paper targets is for sighting in.
Outstanding product and customer service!
Outstanding product and customer service!
The item was exactly as described and shipped super fast.
Very good quality gong. Target shooting is much more fun. We plan to add more shooting stations this summer. The fact that these will last makes them a good investment. Shipping is fast, service is next to none! Thank you, Mark.
Great shipping and Great tgt. Sound great and seem to take the abuse of 30-06 at 300 yrds. Thanks for the service. The only problem is the recatcha text for the review... you can no read the letters......
I purchased the 4", 6" and 8" 1/2" steel targets from Shootingtargets7.com about a month ago. I also purchased the chains they sell also to hang my targets at about 100 yards. I shot 7mm rem mag, 270 win, and a 280 remington rounds several times, all from 100 yards with no issues regarding the functionality of the targets. Before I shot, I painted each target white and hung them after painting for better clarity. All that I have found after using several times is some minor pitting and paint missing. These are all fast moving and hard hitting rounds and these targets dont seem to care. All work well, but the 8" is my favorite. The only reason why is that it won't swing over the top of my stand after impact and get hung up due to its weight. The 6" and 4" seem to get hung up with these sized rounds from that distance. Im sure smaller rounds wouldn't be a problem. I will be buying all 8" targets going foward. Great products, but for my use, the 8" is the way to go.
I bought several sizes of half inch gongs to shoot at distance with our rifles and couldn't be happier. Good ring with hits and no pitting or damage to targets at all. I hung them as recommended with a forward tilt and they work perfectly. I liked them so well I ordered a half dozen quarter inch gongs for rimfire and handguns and hung them today. I am well pleased with them also and will be ordering more in the future. Can't beat the price and the free shipping plus they throw in a free target once in a while too!
mike in hermann mo
love these targets excellent quality and price would highly recommend
Work as described, no pitting or problems noticed.
Quality, value, quick free shipping. What a company and what a target!!
Wish I would have bought these sooner. Fantastic product. First weekend (I bought two 8" targets) a friend and I shot the following calibers, ,17, .22 (from safe distance) 9mm, .38 special, 357 magnum, .45 ACP. Roughly 600 rounds first day put on steel. No problems what so ever. Just make sure you shoot the recommended distance away as occasionally did have minor ricochet but thank God targets hang at slight angle so just went into the ground. Granted 8" plates at 10 yards not that hard to hit, but I'm not an expert shooter by any means, mostly I enjoy shooting for fun. Targets make a very satisfying "plink" when hit which you can hear with ear protection on at 10 yards easily. I would highly recommend buying these. I already have a 4" and a 6" inch plate a friend bought me. They work great too. Some quick points: If your going to mount your own targets, be sure you have something sturdy to do. We used 4 x 4' x 10' wooden posts, two vertical, one horizontal. Then used 1 inch chain links (roughly 1.5 feet long) 1 inch bolts with washers and nuts very similar to the mounting hardware they provide. Used 1 inch U screws to hold chain into posts. Has worked very well so far. This design (wish I could upload pictures for you all) has worked well because we can take one target down and replace it with another target (so take down 8" target and put up 6" or 4" target.)
Works just like advertised. I have shoot this target with several thousand 223 FMJ with only one edge dimple. 300 Win Mag rounds were no problem as well. Handgun rounds don't even phase these plates. The audible gong is there just not as loud as you would think. The larger the plate the louder the gong.
I purchased a 8",6",4" and received a free 3". I am very happy with them, I completed a frame to hang them from and was able to test them out last weekend for the first time. I had painted them white with a red bullseye. I shot my 9mm, 45 and 22 with the targets out about 20yards. They worked great. All that was needed after the shoot was a new paint job. I will be trying some rifle fire next weekend. One of the best targets I have purchased and shipping was so cheap, I thought maybe it was a mistake, those four plates weigh alot, the stated shipping cost was correct (I think it was $5.95) Paper targets now will being used for sighting in a new gun....
As an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor (both Law Enforcement and Civilian) I wonder why I waited so long to get and use these great targets. I installed several and placed each UNPAINTED Gong in different spots on my wooded acreage. All are slightly concealed and requires the operator/student to use his/her experience and discernment of detecting and neutralizing the armed "Bad Guy" with a head shot whether he (the Gong) is at prone, kneeling or standing height. We receive immediate audio feedback from the Gong.
Primed and painted it myself the color I wanted ; red... Shot it this past Sunday and enjoyed it very much. Mounted it to a 2x4saw horse; hanging it with chains ; bolting it with carriage bolts. Was very inexpensive to do. I saved about 80$$ doing the labor myself painting it and making my own stand ... You guys shipped it out fast and I got it fast. Shipping was cheap too.. Very affordable to obtain. Thanks for all you have done.
Purchased this 8" target for 7.62 And .223 target practice. We shot at 75 and 100 yards and barely dented the target at all. We were shooting with iron sights on military weapons. Recommend 12" target for us non-snipers out there for open sights. If you follow the setup instructions, these targets will take a hit, and then let you know that you hit it with both target movement and a gong sound, These targets effectively absorb some of the kinetic energy of the round and then deflect the round downward. As they specify clearly in the instructions, hang the target from chains where the target is at a slight negative angle to the shooter This is very important to absorb and deflect the energy. Note: I had previously purchased some "self healing orange plastic rifle targets" from another company which I found to be a joke. The round will, pass through the target surface with absolutely no movement at all....even with a 3.08. I highly recommend these steel gong targets. I also recommend that you purchase several sets of bolts and heavy chain to hang them with. A great product.
Can't beat these targets. not an issue with whatever weapon we use on them.
These were exactly what you think they will be. Great quality. Well made. Exactly what I wanted. Plus, with the free shipping, you can't beat it!
M855 @ 50 &100 yds. Won't shoot em up in my lifetime. Marks note: It's likely this is pitting the targets we don't recommend shooting M855 (green tip) at any distance. Some folks are OK with the pitting, some are not. Thanks for your review
I bought this 8" gong target on Ebay. I wanted to hang it on the same stand that comes with a Caldwell Magnum Dual Spinner. I got two chunks of chain, a couple hooks, and suspended this gong below the spinner. All works out great. The 8" gong is fine quality. I bought a can of white Rustoleum primer and it looks great. And I got a nice set-up for a lot less than buying a ready assembled unit. [Although I did get a steal on the Caldwell spinner.] Will probably be buying more, not because this one will ever wear out, but for more diversity in sizes..
This target is nicely priced and works great. The gallery on the website regarding how to hang, etc, was very informative Some were cleaner than others but all I needed to do with the target was to clean then up a bit with sanding and then some painting.
I got a 10'', 8'', and two 6'' of the 1/2 Gongs. Great workmanship on the cutting, these will last a lifetime of fun!
I got 3", 4", 6", and 8" gongs and built my own frame for them out of 4x4 lumber. Painted them with some black paint and shot them several times at 100 yards with a .17HMR, a .223/5.56 and a 30/30. Very minute dents. These are going to last and be great fun / practice. Shipping was way cheap and quick by USPS (3-4 days from MI to AL). Very pleased!
This gong is great for giving immediate feedback on shooting with .22 caliber pistols. However, when using ear protection, the high pitched DING is a little hard for me to hear. So I suspended a regulation size "horse shoe" about 1/4 completely behind the gong. Everybody knows how a horse shoe rings and when you hit the gong with a .22 cal, the gong clangs the horse shoe. loudly. I love it! Marks note: next time try a 3/16" thick target for those 22's 1/2" is WAY overkill (more on that in our free eBook). Thanks for your review
Excellent customer service, fast shippng and and bomb proof target, have it hung at 100 yards on my person Zero range. My family and I have been "Banging the Gong" with my .308 and 5.56mm for the last two weeks and this target perfoms as advertised, not a scratch, chip or ding. Well worth the money.
I just received my 8" steel gong and the shipping was very fast. Came from Michigan to Colorado in short order. The steel is amazingly tough. I've been shooting 1/2" steel from a snow plow blade. The difference in pitting is amazing. It pings much better than regular steel. I'll be ordering a couple more in different sizes soon.
I've purchased AR500 gongs from other sources and these are the best. The others have all failed at the ear, and the design of these is simply superior since it has twice as much steel around the perimeter of the ear. Period, these are better.
Good buy, quality, price, and fast shipping. Will order a few more soon.
Great product, fast shipping! Will be buying more in the near future
Perfect for many applications. Great service, price, and quality.
Excellent quality steel. I've been hammering it with 5.56 and .223. It has very little denting, but I hung it on chains correctly. Hammered it at 100 and 200 yds. I didn't find it to "ring like a bell", but it has the usual metal sound when hit by bullets. I would suggest different shipping containers. The simple plastic mailer was torn and damaged with room for the gong to fall out. GOOD target and will last a very long time.
great product; takes the abuse of my 45s in stride.
I have purchased multiple size targets all in 1/2 inch, 4,8, and 10inch. They are the best steel targets out there period.I ripped 2) 50 inch 2x6s for legs. Cut 1) 2x4 50 inches long, Bought 4 bolts. 2) 1/2x 4 1/2 and 2) 7/16x 5 1/2 Cut 2 pieces of the smallest dog chain you can get for support front to rear 4'9" Bought 4 screw in hooks to attach chain to. It fits on my 4wheeler just fine & very light and portable. Bought all half inch thick targets from Mark @ shooting targets 7 I have used 9mm, 40S&W, 45ACP, 223, 3006, 257 Weatherby mag100gr, 300 win mag 150gr all targets have held up well. I will buy more only from S.T.7
tried and true
I purchased these for our sportsmen club and they have been working out great. They are heavy duty and should last a long time. there is a lot of metal around the ears where they bolt on which is usually the first to go on the gongs so these should hold up a long time. Looking to buy more in the future.
The target is an excellent value. Looked at targets locally and couldn't beat the price. The Free shipping offer was great had the targets within 3-4 days of ordering.
Haven't had a chance to use it just yet. New Jersey has some of the strictest gun laws in the country. The item quality wise is just as advertised. I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun with it. Since I border Pennsylvania and hunt there as well, it'll be easier for me to use it there. I would recommend this product to another enthusiast.
I will break this review into 3 parts; the seller, the product, and then what I learned . The seller: Honest, reliable, and kind. I sent at least 27 emails and called a dozen times. He answered every email and took every call without any delay. Super friendly every time I contacted him. That was before I even bought a plate. The items were shipped the next day. The product: I can't compare it to any other steel since this is the first I shot at steal of my own but I can say this, not a dent or ding in the plate. Within the first week I put over 3000 rounds between 5 plates and they are still smooth. I shot 22 to 44 mag. These plates were the 1/2. I picked that thickness because I plan on shooting rifles at them. No sense of getting anything with a less thickness.Pay the extra money and get the thicker plates just in case you want to shoot rifles or any large caliber. Overall, I learned a great deal after 1 week of use. For pistols, I like the 8" for 15 yards 10s and 12s for quick shooting beyond 15 yards. I put a 12", 6", and a 4" at 40 yards to see if I was any accurate. For the rifle, I am going to set up my range with 10" for quick shots, and 10s, 12s, and 6s for the100 yards. Basically the same range set up for pistol but for the rifle I will start a couple inches bigger. To each is their own when it comes to the set up. I say fo sure buy more than 2! Also, I used Shepard Hooks to mount my plates. They work great. The 10s and up need 2 to hold them.
targets take a beating! and i for the price i paid.... I could not be happier. Shooting 308 at 50 yards and still strong WOW!. i will most def be back for more!
Great price! Great product! Arrived quickly. Quick clean up and orange spray paint and lots of fun. Got an 8", 6", free 3" and mounting chains for under $60. Saw 1 painted gong and cheap looking stand for more than twice that. Will buy more!
As with the torsos, top notch. Will be buying more!
Great targets, will get more in the future!!! Thanks
Excellent Gong great craftsmanship ..
Great quality... Shot 22s .380s so far was great to see and hear when you hit something... Lots of fun... Recommend them to anybody who wants to mix it up on the shooting range... Cant wait to take my AR next time...
Awesome targets. Like others, I'm not sure why I waited so long to acquire these. The 8" was perfect for up to 30 yard pistol shoots with my dad. We both appreciated the instant feedback. We used our 9's, 44 mag, and 45/410 Judge. Absolutely no damage (no pits, deformations). Great Michigan company and hope to get them more business from the U.P.
Awesome quality perfect durability. You can not hurt this target. Plinking with a Zastava 7.62 X 39, we have created a new game. Shoot the target dead center to start the swing, as it is swing back, shoot it to stop the swing. After the shot, you win when the target stops dead still. Bonus points, Shoot, stop the target, shoot again for the swing, stop the target, repeat.
I got tired of replacing AR500 gongs made by other vendors at 100, 200, 300 and even 400 yards. They all break at the same spot- where the ear meets the body. ShootingTargets7 listened and their ears are beefier. Since giving these a try, I have been replacing the 3/8" and 1/2" gongs from other vendors with ST7's versions as the others break. I've been shooting the ones from ST7 for over two years with zero breaks. Yeah, there's a life time warranty on these, but I doubt I'll be using it anytime soon. These are just better. Period.
